My questions about the reading are why doesn't President Obama answer these questions. My other question is how long do these conferences last? I would find this easily online from researching or some government website. http://www.newsrealblog.com/2010/05/21/the-press-practices-%E2%80%9Cdon%E2%80%99t-ask%E2%80%9D-and-obama-practices-%E2%80%9Cdon%E2%80%99t-tell%E2%80%9D/
2. What is President Obama's answer? Brennan's?
President Obama said that al Qaeda uses people that don't look like terrorist to carry out there attacks. He also states that the United States will inflict justice on those wrong doers and that we are bigger than the terrorist. Brennan's answer was that al Qaeda is an organization that murders innocent people. They use the religion of Islam to justify their actions and that they have molded Islam to fit their style.
3. Thomas was clearly dissatisfied with Brennan's answer. Why? Would she have been satisfied with the president's? Why or why not?
Thomas was dissatisfied with Brennan's answer because he didn't explain why al Qaeda is actually doing it but just said the obvious answer that everyone knows. He didn't elaborate enough on his answer to satisfy her. I don't think she would be satisfied with the president's answer either because he didn't have a good explanation either. They both basically said that al Qaeda is evil and that's why they kill people.
4. Why does Glenn Greenwald think it important to consider terrorist motivations? Do you agree? Why or why not?
5. How would you answer Thomas' question, "Why?" Why do Hasan, Abdulmutallab, and others commit such acts?? If you need more reliable information, where might you find it?

Glenn Greenwald thinks it is important to consider terrorist motovations because if you don't consider the motives than it would be like justifying the actions. IF we do consider terrorist motivations then that shows we are not afraid of them. I agree with Gleen Greenwald because if we don't say there motives it looks like we don't know them. When we do consider terrorist motivations it gives the people more of a reason why they are bad and they are doing things for the wrong reason.
5. How would you answer Thomas' question, "Why?" Why do Hasan, Abdulmutallab, and others commit such acts?? If you need more reliable information, where might you find it?
I would answer Thomas' question by saying that they attack us because they believe that we've become to dominate in the world. When there's western influence in their holy land Palestine they get mad because they want to keep it their own culture. They also don't like it when we butt our heads in other places in the Middle East. I think that those young guys do acts like that because they're looking for attention and want to advertise themselves. They are the younger generation and they grew up to think that Islam is all about killing people in the name of Allah. They have forgotten the true meaning, and all these extremist on the news don't help them out at all. http://www.nytimes.com/2005/07/22/opinion/22roy.html
